FIFA History Video

Ministry of illusion was required to showcase the history of the FIFA World cup spanning as far back as 1930. The vehicle chosen was that of a grandfather reminiscing with his grandchildren, having collected articles and memorabilia from way back then and storing them in his surreal book.

3 months worth of research was conducted in order to find the accurate facts and figures eventually appearing in the script. This information was not limited to world football but expanded into South African history as well.

Upon completion of the scripts, 4K resolution principle photography was undertaken. The shoot consisted on 3 separate videos that showcased the different eras, these are, South Africa’s banishment from the World Cup, our eventual reinstatement and finally our awarding of the 2010 FIFA World Cup host nation.

Offline editing proceeded directly after the completion of the shoot, utilizing the services of our in house offline editor.

Opening the magical book, live action footage and images were seen coming to life upon the pages. This VFX was achieved by taking archived FIFA footage and tracking and compositing them onto the various pages.

The second and third video was more technologically inclined, so as to effectively showcase our advancements in South Africa, culminating in the 2010 Adidas Jubulani 3D ball reveal, which required around 4 weeks of 3D Animation.

MOI’s involvement in the above process spanned from conception, through shoot to final High Definition delivery.
